Main description
19th century satin birch easy armchair possibly made by Johnstone and Jeanes of London.<br /> <br /> The deep button back is upholstered in a blue fabric with an original sprung seat. The serpentine front and frieze is crisply carved and the chair stands on deep fluted, gadrooned front legs with out-swept back legs that terminate on the original gilt brass castors.<br /> <br /> The cabinet makers Johnstone and Jeanes were based at 67 New Bond Street, London from 1842 to 1880. They were known for producing very high quality antique furniture.
