Main description
A crisply carved early 19th century Regency period rosewood console table.
The original marble top is ‘Porta’ and is from the island of Porto Venere, Tuscany, Italy. It was predominantly used in the mid 17th, 18th and 19th centuries for decorating furniture.
The Porta marble sits on a highly figured rosewood frieze above the original mercury plate mirror and is supported on crisply carved ‘S’ scroll supports.
The scroll supports are carved with acanthus leaf decoration and ‘C’ scrolls and sweep down to crisply carved paw feet that stand on a rosewood veneered plinth base with an inset carved moulding.

What Is the George IV Period?
The George IV period (1820-1830) marked the height of the British Regency style, combining classical elegance with increasing richness in materials and decoration. Influenced by architects and designers such as John Nash and Thomas Hope, furniture from the period is recognised for its bold proportions, finely figured mahogany and rosewood veneers, brass inlay, carved ornament and refined neoclassical design.
