Handpainted boxes and caddies of this type were made in the town of Spa, which is now in present-day Belgium. They were imported into England by retailers mainly along the South Coast.

Main description
The box has exquisitely detailed painted scenes of spa towns in Belgium including Chateau de Montjardin, Tonnelet, Chateau de Franchimont and Geronstere.<br /> <br /> The interior of the box features a removable tray with compartments for various items including thread spools, winders and thimbles with a large storage space underneath. The underside of the lid has a fixed mirror and the box has a fully working lock and key. <br /> <br /> <br />
