Early 19th century Regency period japanned and lacquered chinoiserie tea caddy
The Chinese figures that adorn the top are surrounded by trees, landscape and foliage and crossbanded with a gilded penwork border above a delicately decorated concave edge. The top opens to reveal the original chinoiserie lids and turned knobs with the silver lining enclosing the inside of the top.
Below the top is the highly decorated body with two Chinese figures playing in a garden with a pagoda in the background and it is crossbanded with a gilded and penwork border. The caddy sides retain the original gilt brass carry handles with floral chinoiserie decorated sides and back.
The caddy stands on the original gilt brass feet.
