English
circa 1785 - 1795
A late George III 18th century period Sheraton mahogany piano stool, almost certainly by Gillows of London and Lancaster.
The circular leather seat is quite possibly the original but is certainly very old and is green faded leather. The seat ascends and descends on a carved turned wooden thread. The piano stool is signed underside in pencil '1785' and the maker's name. The piano stool is exceptionally fine and stands of four tapered, reeded, 'Gillowesque' legs with a centre stretcher. The piano stool is in excellent original condition and has not suffered from any breaks or damage. It is a very early example of a music stool.
Excellent with a very old leather covering.
