George III period rosewood writing table of elegant proportions
The rectangular leather lined top with blind and broken gilt tooling is worked on a new but antiqued green leather. The top is executed with satinwood and kingwood bandings above a finely inlaid rosewood strung edge.
The rosewood inlaid frieze conceals two full length cedar lined drawers with fine, very fine dovetails with faux drawers to the reverse. The sides of the frieze are veneered in fine figured rosewood with boxwood stringing with a west Indian satinwood crossbanding below the drawers and fine boxwood stringing to the frieze corners.
The two drawer writing table is raised on a central rosewood inlaid stretcher and trestle end supports above out stretched shaped legs that terminate on the original brass capped castors.
The writing table is of the highest quality and made in a London workshop of the day, inlaid and strung throughout with the high grade rosewood veneers. The timber has faded and retains a lovely colour and lively grain.
