Georgian Period Figured Mahogany Twin Pedestal Desk
The black leather lining is embossed with a broken gilt tooling and laid onto a well figured mahogany top. The breakfront top is made as one piece with an inverted front and back with a double moulded bevelled thumb nail edge above one long full length drawer and flanked by two short drawers. To the reverse the two short drawers sit above cupboard doors that open to reveal single shelves.
The pedestals are finished off to the corners with rounded capitals and to the front there is a bank of graduated drawers that retain the original turned wooden handles. The desk is made with recessed panels to all sides and is raised on a plinth base that stand on concealed castors.
The desk is well drawn with figured veneers and breaks down to four components and is obviously structural sturdy and practical.
The colour and patina is actually rather mellow and retains an old revived finish.
