George IV late Regency mahogany ‘Klismos’ desk chair
The chair is in the 'Klismos' style in that it has similar designs to the Greek klismos chair which is an ancient form extensively used by the Greeks. The shape may go even further back in history, and has made several re-appearances, most notably in English Regency.
The arm supports with ‘C’ scrolls and carved fandrels are fitted to the centre back panel with stepped scrolled arms, with a mahogany frame and ebonised buttons.
The mahogany seat frame is supported by out-swept back legs and fine turned reeded front legs. The chair has recently been re-covered with a blue leather and stands on the original brass cup castors.
