England
circa 1720 - 1730
Superbly rare set of six 18th Century George I period carved mahogany single dining chairs with a dished paper scroll crest rail with tightly carved 'C' scrolls flanked by solid mahogany uprights. The vase shaped splat with pierced and scrolled uprights sits above a bowed solid seat rail which accommodate rounded drop in loose seats. The drop in seats have recently been re-upholstered in a rose pink Gainsborough damask within a solid mahogany shaped apron above cabriole legs carved at the knees with foliage and C-scrolls supported on ball and claw feet to the front and chamfered back legs joined by a turned stretcher.
Excellent. Two replaced drop in seat frames have been inherited with the chairs. The chairs have not been re-polished and retain a great colour.
