circa 1710 - 1720
An early 18th century George I walnut chest of drawers of small and elegant proportions.
The rectangular caddy top is quarter veneered and crossbanded with boxwood and walnut stringing throughout with a finished bevelled moulded edge above four graduated oak lined drawers. The walnut drawers retain the original engraved back plates, swan neck handles and lock escutcheons.
The chest is raised on the original walnut veneered bracket feet and simulated walnut sides.
The chest has a great colour, patina and lustre.
Revived, waxed and retains original handles and feet.
The simulated sides on early walnut furniture is quite regional and we believe this chest is possibly home counties Oxfordshire area. This is a rare size and an early example of walnut furniture.
