Early 19th century Regency period carved mahogany inlaid oval-shaped wine cooler of grand proportions possibly by Gillows of Lancaster and London.
The oval-shaped lid is inlaid with ribbons, rosettes and bell husks and a central carved oval fan-shaped moulding is applied and fitted with a crisply carved vat, containing the grapes to make wine. The lid is tiered and steps down to a gadrooned moulded edge and lifts up to reveal the original lead lining.
The body of the wine cooler is veneered with figured upright panels and inlaid with ribbons, husks and rosettes and pitted with crisply carved acanthus leaf carry handles that sit above another gadrooned moulding above decorated scrolled hairy paw feet and concealed castors.
