circa 1815 - 1825
An early 19th century Regency period japanned and lacquered chinoiserie tea caddy of sarcophagus shape.
The caddy top is beautifully decorated with oriental figures and chinoiserie decoration to the bezled top.
To the front are more chinoiserie figures with the sides and back of the tea caddy decorated and japanned with floral motifs.
The hinged top lifts to reveal the original tea caddy lids with mirrored decoration from the bezeled top of the tea caddy. The inside lid is beautifully decorated with floral patterns matching the sides and back of the tea caddy body.
It is raised on the original gilt metal paw feet and the tea caddy still retains some of the original linings.
The tea caddy is quite rare as it is in the japanned style rather than the pure chinoiserie fashion.
It is a good style and in excellent original condition.
