William IV Period Mahogany Dining Table of Unusual Design
The solid Mahogany top lifts up, swivels 180 degrees and lays flat on the solid mahogany base below. The leaves open and create a solid 6 seater dining table. The table structure below conceals two full length mahogany lined drawers with fine dove tails as well's the original gilt brass locks.
The makers label can be found behind the the right hand drawer. The table when not open can be used as side table albeit a fairly substantial one!
The table is raised on splendid solid mahogany turned and reeded legs that terminate on the original gilt brass upturned tulip caps and castors. The castors are stamped ' Copes & Co'.
John Kendall, Leeds (1783-1840) were important Leeds makers having many patrons including the Earl of Harewood, Harewood House between 1812-22. From the 1830s the firm adopted the policy of labelling their furniture.
