Early 19th Century Period Rosewood Breakfront Bookcase/Display Cabinet
The chamfered cornice sits above vertical cross veneers and is repeated to the sides and made with highly figured rosewood. To the front the glazed doors are flanked with plain capitals that descend from solid rosewood corbels to the top section.
The pair of glazed doors open to reveal three original adjustable shelves that have been finished to the front edge with a rosewood veneer. The shelving spans the top section of the bookcase and sits on a low waisted breakfront base.
The lower section is finely figured with a breakfront frieze that retains three concealed mahogany lined drawers and figured rosewood sides, above four silk covered doors that rest on a well grained breakfront plinth base.
The centre section cupboard doors open to reveal a fixed middle shelf with the single side cupboard doors opening to reveal four original mahogany lined trays that slide out to offer a practical storage option.
The cabinet retains a lovely faded rosewood with a pleasant well figured grain. The bookcase retains the original locks and gilt brass escutcheons and comes in two parts.
