19th century satin birch easy armchair possibly made by Johnstone and Jeanes of London.
The deep button back is upholstered in a blue fabric with an original sprung seat. The serpentine front and frieze is crisply carved and the chair stands on deep fluted, gadrooned front legs with out-swept back legs that terminate on the original gilt brass castors.
The cabinet makers Johnstone and Jeanes were based at 67 New Bond Street, London from 1842 to 1880. They were known for producing very high quality antique furniture.
