Regency giltwood mirror of the Chippendale style and period.
The ‘Regency Eagle’ with claw and ball carving surmounted on 'C' scrolls and acanthus leaf decoration is supported on an open carved leaf border above a scrolled moulding.
The shoulders descend into trailing flowers and foliage with ascending stiff leaf decoration from the apron. The large 'C' scrolls that connect to the centre decoration are open fretted and finely carved.
The Chippendale 18th century rococo style that is presented in this mirror is in fact a copy and is almost quite unique in that it was commissioned as such at the turn of 19th century.
The ‘Regency Eagle’ and other characteristics of the mirror place it at this period of time. Although the mirror plate is thin and of the period it is not the original to this frame. The carving, scale and design and quality is of the highest nature and was carved by a top London firm.
The frame retains an early period mirror glass.
