A superb English early 19th century primitive picture of a tiger in a landscape. The recumbent tiger, hand-worked in coloured wools, lies below a mountain with palm trees and tropical foliage.
Excellent, vibrant colours.
The only insignificant nibbles are to the right hand border, shown below:
Note the brown ground (far right) level with the claws.
The v small hole in the black ground (top right of the photo) is shown again in the second photo below.
These works are rare and I have only found three examples to reference the tiger picture above.
The references are from auctions over the last decade.
Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood sold a slightly larger woolwork tiger picture and it lacked its frame - on 10th March 2020 for £9,600.00
Tennents of Leyburn, North Yorkshire, sold woolwork picture of a tiger- on 8th September 2012 lot 925 for £8,000.00
Mellors & Kirk sold a similar image of a leopard and lacking its original frame – on 27th June, 2019 for £5,200.00
