England
circa 1775 - 1780
The floral marquetry inlaid tea caddy is veneered in a highly figured birch and inlaid with a magnificent urn and embellished with ivory. The lid opens to reveal the original mahogany bevelled lid and red velvet and silver thread stitching to the interior lid. The floral marquetry inlaid is top quality and undoubtably the work of a London workshop. The marquetry inlay is in the manner of John Cobb.
