England
circa 1795 - 1805
The chests of drawers retain identical original handles, locks and escutcheons and share the same drawer linings (cedar, mahogany and deal). The drawer fronts on both the chests have the same mahogany veneers and faded ebony stringing to the tops with one chest retaining a mahogany brushing slide. The chests are certainly made in the same workshop at the same time and the splayed bracket feet are identical. The pair of chests retain an excellent colour and patination and are matched as a 'his and hers'.
