Rare 19th Century Victorian Period Ormolu & Gilt Brass Fire Screen

To the top centre top of the fire screen is a 'myrtle' wreath above a gilt cast broken pediment frame with fire screen mesh below that is decorated with ribbons, floral swags, a flower motif and a burning torch and quiver of arrows. The ormolu fluted supports that flank the mesh stand on crisply cast 'Greek-Key' feet.

The myrtle 'gold wreath' is a symbol of love and was sacred to the Greek goddess Aphrodite. The flaming torch is an ancient symbol of life, truth and the regenerative power of fire while the quiver of arrows signifies the ability to use force in the pursuit of justice.
